“What?!”
“Jake, you’re nuts, do you know what you’re saying? You swore you’d never fly to Paris! Because of that accident, I had to talk the head
office, and they were mad,” said his boss on the
phone, seconds after he sent the text.
Five years before, when his flight had a crash,
Jake had asked to not fly to Paris. He had said

he would quit. Everyone in the office knew
about that.
Now he was asking to fly to Paris again?
“I’m serious. Do whatever it takes to make it
happen!”
“What happened?” his boss asked.
“Hey, be honest, did you all think I was over the
line with Tiffany? That I wasn’t fair to Lisa?” he replied.
There was silence at the other end of the line. Silence is often the best answer.
“Okay,” Jake sighed. “I haven’t had dinner with Lisa for years, I don’t remember holidays and her presents are all repetitive and cheap. I’ve
bailed on the license over a dozen times.”
“And yet, I never thought about breaking up.” “But today, Lisa quit, she’s in Paris.” he added. “Okay.” his boss said.
Then, he hung up.
Thirty minutes later, there was a text message:
“Head office approved. First flight to Paris,
that’s you tomorrow.”
