Chapter 14
Liam
Finally, the shift is over. I feel exhausted. Too many complicated surgeries. I leave my things on the sofa and head straight to the bedroom. I let myself fall backward onto the bed. I use my feet to help me take off my shoes. I’m dead tired.
I check the time: Seven in the morning. After a few minutes, I get up to take off my clothes and head for a shower. I need to rest because in the afternoon I have to do post–operative follow–ups.
The hot water cascades over my body, and I close my eyes. Suddenly, a memory comes to me
“Flashback”
Almost two months ago, a similar situation to today occurred. I finished work, and I was extremely tired. However, when I went to my office to get
my things, Annie was waiting for me, asleep in my chair. I won’t deny that seeing her waiting for me made me feel very tender. I approached her quietly and stroked her hair
“Annie. Annie, wake up. What are you doing here?” my now fiancée straightened up and began rubbing her eyes.

while she also takes her things, and we leave.
“Where’s your car?” I ask, not seeing it parked nearby. She smiles childishly and shakes her head.
“I went home to drop it off and asked Robert to bring me here. I go to your apartment with you. I brought pajamas.” She shows me a small surfcase. I don’t say anything, although I didn’t expect her to bring some things. I don’t know how to feel about it.
When we arrived, she went to the bedroom and arranged what she brought: a toothbrush, a hairbrush, some creams, her pajamas, and slippers. didn’t want to comment. I just focused on getting ready for the shower. When I was under the water, suddenly, small hands hugged my torso from behind I turned to face her. She looked wonderfully sensual, with her wet hair and naked body. She threw herself at my lips, and I responded with passion. I felt my member come to life having her like that, so I lifted her and made her wrap her legs around my hips, pressing her against the wall. “Mom wants me to accompany her to run some errands, Will see you at the hospital tomorrow?” She nodded with a sad smile, imagine she thought she would stay over again tonight.

Apparently to everyone, what we had was working well, but only I knew it wasn’t true. My plans were not to marry her; however, with the proposal from her parents and mine, we both felt a bit pressured to hasten the wedding
Maybe if I had refused from the beginning. But I was hurt because Maria didn’t decide to fight for us, so I made it clear I wouldn’t wait for her anymore. When I went to see her, she was cold and indifferent. I felt tired of fighting alone. So I didn’t object to the date being set soon. Annie looked so happy and radiant that little by little, I got excited without knowing why. Apparently, I had resigned myself to my fate
Exactly one month before the date, I went to see Maria for the last time.
“Flashback”
“Liam! What are you doing here?” I looked at her, trying to decipher if what she said she felt for me no longer existed

“I’m not! You know I don’t want you to get married, but I can’t do that to your parents. They’ve treated me like a daughter, and I don’t want them to repudiate me. Can you understand that? She starts crying, and I pull her into my arms.

But a moment later, she breaks the kiss and moves away from me.
“Go, Liam. Be very happy.” That’s all she says before going back into the school where she was sent. My mother thought they would give her a better education there, and she didn’t refuse. I watch her leave, and I stand there, watching her walk away. Maybe it’s the last time we’ll be alone while I’m still
So I turn around and get into my car to return home, where my future wife awaits me

I try to push all those memories out of my mind. They don’t matter now. Things are in their place. I’m with Maria, while Annie is no longer by my side A pang shoots through my body at the thought. Guilt overwhelms me, even though I don’t want to admit it. I close my eyes to try to sleep, but a blue gaze full of love for me appears in my mind. I start to fall asleep, but as if it were a whisper, I seem to hear her voice, lulling me.

Annie
I check the time on my watch. According to the shift schedule, Liam should have finished and be at his apartment by now I still remember the days we shared the same schedule. A smile appears on my face. The distance is helping me understand how wrong I was.
Recently, Aaron asked me why I fell in love with Liam if he never showed interest in me. I didn’t know what to answer. One doesn’t choose whom to love, we just give our hearts, and that’s it. But love is a seed that grows, watered with care and affection, I tried to plant the seed of my love in him, but i didn’t know that soil was already sown. I don’t regret having loved and tried. At least I didn’t sit idly by, waiting for him to notice my feelings. He didn’t want me, and I accept it. Now I understand that he wasn’t for me. I take a deep breath as I get ready to head to the office.
