Chapter 8
Adam strode into his mother’s office, his emotions tightly coiled, though a storm brewed within him. Camille sat behind her desk, a picture of calm elegance, her steely gaze meeting her son‘ s.
“You wanted to talk to me?” Adam asked, his voice clipped.
Camille gestured for him to sit, but Adam remained standing, his arms crossed over his chest. She sighed. “Now that you and Amelia have divorced, and Bridgette is back-”
“I didn’t agree to a divorce,” Adam cut her off, his tone sharp enough to slice through steel. “I don‘ t even remember signing a damn divorce agreement!”
Camille‘ s eyes widened slightly, but she kept her composure.
“I didn’t sign it,” Adam growled, stepping closer to the desk. “I never

signed anything.
Camille’s carefully maintained mask faltered. She let out a soft sigh, looking at her son as though he were a fragile boy again, not the powerful alpha he had become.
“Adam…” Her voice was unusually soft, a thread of guilt weaving through it. “It’s time you knew the truth.”
Adam‘ s brows furrowed. “What truth?”
Camille stood and walked to a nearby cabinet. She pulled out a folder, hesitating for a moment before setting it on the desk.
“This,” she said, sliding the folder toward
Adam.
He opened it, his sharp eyes scanning the papers inside. His heart sank as he read the bold title: Contract of Agreement.
Amelia’s name was there, alongside Camille’s signature.
“What is this?” Adam demanded, though

his hands began to tremble.
“It’s an agreement,” Camille admitted, her tone heavy. “Three years ago. Amelia and I made a deal. I asked her to marry you… to help you move on from Bridgette.”
Adam s eyes snapped to hers, his expression a mix of disbelief and fury.
“You what?”
“You were falling apart. Adam,” Camille said quickly, her voice laced with desperation. “After Bridgette left you for that other alpha, you were broken. You refused to lead the pack. You shut everyone out. I thought ” She paused, taking a deep breath. “I thought if someone loved you, even if it was just pretend at first, it might help you heal.”
Adam s chest heaved, his breaths uneven.
“So, you used Amelia?”
“She owed me,” Camille said firmly. “I sponsored her education, her living

expenses. I was like a mother to her, and she agreed to repay me by helping you.
“She agreed?” Adam repeated, his voice cracking with emotion. “And all this time. I thought He stopped, unable to finish
the sentence.
Camille nodded solemnly. “The deal was
for three years. She would stay by your side, be the support you needed. But once the time was up, she was free to go.”
Adam’s knees felt weak. He dropped into the chair, his head spinning. “Three years.” he whispered, staring blankly at the papers. “It was all a lie.”
Camille hesitated before speaking again.
“I did it because I cared about you. Adam. I thought-”
“You thought wrong,” Adam snapped, his voice low and venomous. “You thought this would help? That manipulating me like this would make anything better?”
“Adam.” Camille said softly, reaching for

his hand, but he pulled away.
He stood, pacing the room as his mind raced. Memories of Amelia flooded him- her laughter, her quiet support, the fire in her eyes when she defended him. It was all fake?
“If she didn’t care,” Adam said, his voice trembling, “then why did she risk her life for me? Why did she jump into the fire circle to help me secure that land for the pack? Why would she put herself in danger for a deal?”
Camille looked away, unable to meet his eyes.
“She didn’t love me,” Adam continued, his voice breaking. “It was all for the damn agreement. No affection. No loyalty. Nothing.”
Camille remained silent, watching her son unravel.
Adam turned to her, his eyes blazing.
“Where is she?”

“I don’t know,” Camille said quietly.
“Don’t lie to me.”
“I’m not lying, Adam. I haven’t spoken to her since she left.” Of course, it was a
lie.
Adam clenched his fists, his jaw tightening. He didn’t believe her, but before he could press further, his phone buzzed in his pocket. He snatched it out, seeing Asher‘ s name on the screen.
