The Pain Again 18

Chapter 18

Amanda froze for a second, suddenly regretting saving that idiot Damion. But no one gave her time to regret it

Luis narrowed his eyes at Amanda and asked, Are you from the Mystical Arts Circle too?”

He hadn’t expected Amanda to block his talisman like that, and he could detect that her power clearly wasn’t shallow

He thought, How come I’ve never heard of such a young diviner in the Mystical Arts Circle

Amanda took a bite of her ice cream and shook her head. Nah”

Luis’s frown deepened. He didn’t push the question but shifted his gaze back to Darnion. Are you protecting him?”

Amanda replied, He’s not the one haunting this place.”

Luis retorted. There’s only one ghost here. If it’s not him, then who?”

Damion, feeling bold with Amanda around, poked his head out and shot back, You didn’t see the photo? It was a woman in red. I’m a man, okay?”

Luis thought for a moment and thought that actually made sense. The ghost caught on camera was a woman in a red robe. Even if Damion crossdressed, the height didn’t match

Luis’s expression stayed cold as he added, Even if he’s not the one, he’s still a ghost. Ghosts should be exorcised. And you, since you know the arts, why do you defend him?”

Amanda shrugged and replied, Tm not defending him. But you were about to blast him straight into oblivion, not even giving him a shot at reincarnation. Of course I had to step In.”

Luis’s brows furrowed deeper, and he said, The Gateway to the Netherworld is closed. He can’t reincarnate. A ghost wandering too long will eventually lose itself and turn vengeful. It’s better to deal with it now.”

He paused for a second. There were whispers that someone had reopened the Gateway recently. He just had no clue who had that kind of power

Hearing his words, Amanda blinked in confusion and tilted her head. She had just sent six souls off to reincarnate not long ago

Wait, the Gateway’s been closed for ten years? Then where have all the dead people been going? Isn’t that a recipe for disaster?! thought Amanda

While she was lost in thought, Paul looked around nervously and asked in a shaking voice, Hey, who are you looking at?”

Is the ghost right in front of us? Paul thought. His legs were trembling now, and he glanced at Amanda like she was some walking nightmare

Amanda snapped out of it and replied, Look, the ghost story is not his doing. If you really want to catch the one behind all this, sneak back here tonight. But don’t tell anyone, got it?”

With that, she gave a lazy wave and started walking off

Damion didn’t hesitate a second but followed her immediately. He had no idea who Amanda was, but one thing was crystal clearsticking with her meant survival

Mr. Pearson, you’re just gonna let her leave?Paul asked, clearly panicked

He was convinced Amanda knew something, and in his mind, they should keep her here for answers

Luis shot Paul a sideways glance and snapped, If you’ve got the skill to stop her, go ahead

Paul clearly couldn’t make it, so he went silent

Luis kept watching Amanda as she walked away, mulling over her words. He made up his mind. Alright then. Let’s see who’s really behind this mess

Anton was just as curious, and he asked, Manda, if it’s not a ghost messing up the place, could it be a human?

Chapter 15

Amanda nodded. Yep, it’s business warfare.”

Anton looked completely lost upon hearing the answer

Damion covered his mouth and chuckled. I know. There’s no ghost at all. Paul’s competitor paid off some security guys, had people sneak in at night dressed as ghosts, and took creepy photos. Gotta say, they nailed the vibes, and even I got spooked

Anton suddenly got it, and he sighed in his mind, Well, seems the higher the level of business warfare, the more absurd the

methods

He shook his head, clearly speechless. Man, I came up with a dozen wild theories, but I never thought it’d be something this dumb

He turned to Amanda and asked, How would you know all that?”

Amanda shook her head and replied, I didn’t know that. I just noticed Paul’s face was bright red and the area between his eyes looked all messed up. It was a classic sign of being sabotaged

Meanwhile, that security guard’s face glowed like he just hit the jackpot. Put two and two together and, yeah, not hard to guess What’s up

Damion didn’t understand a word of it, but he still looked at Amanda, his eyes full of respect

Amanda rubbed her chin, still thinking about what Luns had said earlier. She suddenly asked, Hey, when you died, did any soul guides come to collect your spirit?”

Damion shook his head, but Anton nodded

Damion’s eyes went wide, and he asked in surprise, Then how come you didn’t reincarnate?”

Anton was confused too. They said I had unfinished business, so they couldn’t take me. After that, I ran into other soul guides. a few times. They all said the same thing”

Damion stared at Anton, confused, thinking, Wait, there are ghosts that the soul guides can’t take away?”

Amanda glanced at Anton, her eyes lingering on the thick divinity glow surrounding him. Someone with strong divinity like that couldn’t be taken by force

If he resisted, his energy would actually burn the soul guides. Only when he let go of his regrets on his own would he be willing to leave with them

Amanda’s tone turned a little more serious as she looked at Anton. Do you remember the last time you saw a soul guide?”

Anton thought hard and then suddenly, his eyes went wide. Ten years ago.”

Amanda’s heart sank. Just as I thought. Something went wrong ten years ago. Could it be that something happened to the underworld

She rubbed her thumb over a copper coin, lost in thought. Then something occurred to her. She asked the elf, Hey, elf, when you told me I couldn’t reincarnate after I die, was that because of this mess too?”

The elf played dead and gave her no response. Amanda narrowed her eyes and let out a cold laugh. Alright then. I am getting

to the bottom of this

But before that, there was something else that needed doing

Two hours later, Damion watched as Amanda downed a whole burger, a pile of fried chicken, and then moved on to a juicy steak. He hovered nearby, drooling all over the place. Boss, can I get just one bite?he asked hopefully

Amanda instantly shielded her plate and stuffed the last bite of steak into her mouth, mumbling through a full mouth, Tve finished it

Damion gritted his teeth and shot her a bitter glare, complaining She’s so stingy

Anton had been tagging along with Amanda for two days now. He was already used to it. He knew the meal she gave the kids yesterday was probably the most generous she’d ever be

Chapter Is

Amanda wiped her mouth and rubbed her round belly, still looking totally unfazed about hogging all the food. Then she strolled over to a supermarket and picked up a big bag of fruit

Damion followed along with his head drooping. He knew full well he wouldn’t get a share. He just floated there, defeated and drooling

Then out of nowhere, something heavy dropped into his arms. He blinked and saw a watermelon. Startled, he looked over Amanda

She waved him off casually and said. Here, knock yourself out. And don’t go calling me stingy again.”

Damion’s face lit up, and he said, No, you’re not stingy at all. You’re the most generous person I know.”

He took a big bite and then paused. He stared at the unripe flesh, his eyes narrowing as he spotted the middle part already scooped out

So she only gave it me because it’s flavorless, huh? I was right. She IS stingy, Damion grumbled silently
