Dustin and Renata left. I had booked my flight to go abroad, planning to leave the next day. Dustin kept sending me messages, but I didn’t even glance at them.
I thought about blocking him, but then I thought that since once I left for abroad, I wouldn’t be using this SIM card anymore, so I decided against it.
The next day, I grabbed my suitcase and took a taxi to the airport.
I
Just as I was about to check in, I received a call from Johanna,
Her voice trembled, filled with panic and tears.
“Lyanna, please come back, Dustin is in critical condition!*
I was stunned. He had been fine just yesterday, and I couldn’t imagine how things could have changed so suddenly.
Johanna was frantic, and I worried she might have a breakdown. I asked for the address and rushed over immediately.
When I arrived, I found Dustin’s condition was far worse than I had imagined.
Renata had stabbed him several times. His abdomen was bleeding profusely, and the
weapon was still lodged in his stomach. It couldn’t be removed, or it could trigger massive blood
loss.
When Johanna saw me, she broke down in tears. She grabbed my hand, her voice shaking.
“Lyanna, Dustin refuses surgery. He’s afraid he won’t get to see you again. You have to talk to
him.”
Dustin looked up at me, a weak smile on his face.
“Lyanna, you came.
See? You still have feelings for me.”
In less than a week, we had gone from being a couple about to get married to two strangers, completely distant from each other.
And now, he was on the verge of dying in front of me.
Dustin stared at me, his eyes shining brightly, reminding me of the time back in high school
when he protected me.
“Lyanna, you still love me, don’t you?”
My silence was enough for him to understand my true feelings.
He let out a bitter laugh, and the light in his eyes slowly dimmed.
“Lyanna, I’m sorry.”
Later, Dustin was wheeled into surgery, but he didn’t make it.
He lost too much blood, and his will to live was weak. The chances of him pulling through
were almost nonexistent.
Renata was sentenced to twelve years for manslaughter.
She could have paid the penalty fees and started a new life in another city. But now, all that
had been shattered.

I returned to the house where Dustin and I had once lived. To my surprise, he had covered th
entire bedroom with our photos.
I saw one from when we were young, him holding me with a radiant smile.
There was another, taken at our university graduation, with me standing in the corner, watching him stand out in the crowd.
It dawned on me that we had already been walking on different paths many years ago.
On the desk was the wedding ring set I had personally designed for our wedding.
The two rings could be combined to form a perfect circle.
Dustin had noticed my little touch and had placed the two rings together in a ring box.
I stared at the rings. I had
oured countless days and nights into them. However, now I felt
nothing inside me.
Before I left, I casy tossed them into the trash.

I didn’t attend Dustin’s funeral. I burned all our photos and then, once again, embarked on my
journey to go aboard.
Once I arrived in the new country, I slowly began to forget all about those past events, as if
Dustin had never existed in my life.
During my two years studying abroad, I became more mature and composed.
After graduation, Kendrick recommended I enter a jewelry design competition, and I gladly
accepted.
As expected, I won the gold medal.
While waiting for the awards ceremony, the audience gasped in surprise.
The handsome foreign man who won the silver medal kneeled before me, holding his award ring up to my face.
He spoke in my country’s language, though with a slight nervousness, his words clearly
rehearsed.
“Lyanna, would you give me a chance to pursue you?”
I was a little taken aback. This man, a fellow student, had been very kind to me during my studying abroad. I wasn’t sure if I was at the point of liking him yet, but I definitely felt some
attraction.
I smiled faintly at him. I knew it was time to turn the page and start a new chapter in my life.
