I frowned and stood up with my lunch.
“Get out!”
Ashley’s face darkened.
“Leo! I’m your superior, give Ethan the food!”
She was pressuring me, and trying to guilt
- me.
I ignored her.
Ethan pretended to be sad. “It’s okay, Ashley,
we won’t take it. That’s from his special girl. I
don’t want it.”
What a jerk.
I gritted my teeth.
Just then.
The chief rushed in, looking worried.
“Who’s Jennifer Moon’s doctor? Come here!”
Ashley and Ethan looked at each other, then
followed him.
Jennifer had sudden heart failure, the ER was
chaos.
I ate my lunch.
Everything was happening like last time.
The chief was experienced. He saw Jennifer
had a chest tap, but it had caused a
pneumothorax, which led to heart failure.
He yelled, “Are you all idiots?”
“Don’t you know not to let air in during a
chest tap? Everyone to the conference room!”
Someone had leaked the news about Jennifer.
The internet was in an uproar.
Her fans blocked the hospital, demanding to
see her.
The Moon family sent a lawyer.
He wore a suit and gold glasses.
And threatened us.
“If anything happens to my client, this
hospital will be shut down!”

The director was scared, and started yelling
at the chief.
He wanted him to save Jennifer and find out
who screwed up the chest tap.
If things went badly, the entire ER would be
fired!
The director was in trouble too.
Everyone there had something to hide.
The lawyer would find it.
The chief called an emergency meeting, the
director was there too.
I saw Ashley patting Ethan’s back and
comforting him.

They kept looking at me, like they knew
something.
I knew they were planning to blame me.
I pretended not to notice.
Sarah sat next to me and whispered, “Who
did the chest tap today?”
We were the only ones on the ambulance.
Everyone was whispering.
“It wasn’t Ashley, she wouldn’t mess up. And
Leo’s been doing this for years, he wouldn’t…
so it must be Ethan.”

“I agree, Jennifer’s wound was messed up by
someone who didn’t know what they were
doing.”
“He’s been working here for months, and
Ashley’s been helping him. How can he be so
useless?”
“Ashley probably did his reports for him. Last
time he gave the wrong medicine and almost
killed someone!”
“It’s scary to have someone like that as a
doctor.”
Everyone knew it was probably Ethan’s fault.
But I knew there was more to come.
The chief glared at bin
The chief glared at him. “Ethan, did you do
the chest tap?”
Ethan started to cry. “I know… everyone
thinks I’m the problem.”
“I said I wanted to try.”
“But Ashley said I didn’t have enough
experience.”
He pointed at me.
“Leo did it!”

I was furious when he said that.

I looked confused. “What are you talking
about?”
“You did the chest tap, didn’t you? You were
excited to try. I tried to tell you it was
dangerous.”
“But Ashley said it would be okay since she
was there.”
“Then you got blood in your face, and I rode
back alone. Don’t lie.”
“Ashley, what do you have to say?”
I looked at Ashley.
She saw everything.
Ashley looked cold.
“I’m your girlfriend, but I won’t lie for you.
Leo, you did the chest tap.”
Everyone gasped.
Ashley kept blaming me.
“I was going to do it.”
“But Leo said he wanted to! I told him it
wasn’t safe, but-”
“He said this was his chance to get in good
with the Moons! He wanted me to let him do
it!”
Ashley sighed.
“I should have listened to myself.”
“He left in the ambulance with the nurse, and
did the chest tap there.”
“I didn’t think he would mess up so badly!”
Ashley blamed me.
It made sense!
Last time, I was so angry, I asked Ashley why
she was doing this? Didn’t she love me?
Ashley laughed and told me not to play
games!
My begging didn’t work.
I hated her!
