Chapter 6
Now. I just wanted a fresh start.
<
Moments after hanging up on David, an
unknown number called.
I answered hesitantly, and a furious voice
erupted.
“Linda, you’re so manipulative! Pretending to
divorce David just so you could do this!”
“You’re so scheming, you’ll get what’s coming
to you!”
“Even if my reputation is ruined, I’m the one
who benefits. You’re just a discarded wife. I’ll
make sure you never step foot in David’s life
again!”
I almost laughed.
“Amelie in it nessible the ri
tru!!
L
“Amelia, is it possible the rumors are true?”
“My family provided David’s startup capital.
And David pursued me first.”
Amelia’s voice sharpened.
“You bitch, don’t lie! Everyone knows you
were chasing after David!”
“Besides, the past is the past. What’s the
point of bringing it up now?”
“Just you wait. I’ll get my revenge. I’ll make
you beg for my forgiveness!”
As she spoke, a message popped up on my
phone.
Г
From David.
【Linda, it was all my fault. Where are you? I
want to see you.】
I didn’t reply. But that night, David found me.
I saw him through the peephole. After a long
pause, I opened the door.
I had let go of the past. This would be my
final goodbye.
David’s eyes were red and swollen, like he’d
been crying.
Relief flooded his face when he saw me.
“Linda, I thought you’d never want to see me
again ”
く
“Come home with me. I’ll talk to Amelia, I
won’t let her interfere with our lives anymore.”
I shook my head.
“David, however you found me, don’t do it
again.”
“I can’t forgive what you’ve done. There’s no
‘us‘ anymore.”
“I opened the door to tell you this in person. Don’t contact me again. And my lawyer is
handling the divorce. I’ll need your
cooperation.”
David’s expression changed instantly.
“Linda, you’re serious about the divorce?”
Г
“I signed the papers for Amelia’s sake, not
because I wanted to divorce you.”
“I never wanted to leave you, Linda.”
He looked genuinely confused, like he
couldn’t understand my actions.
I was confused too.
“David, you cheated. I’m the one leaving you.”
“How can you even say that to me?”
His eyes narrowed, finally grasping my
resolve.
“Linda, you’re telling me this was all your
plan?”
“That you suggested the divorce just to make
it easier for yourself?”
“Then why did you scheme to marry me in the
first place? We grew up together, how could
you manipulate me like this?!”
He clenched his jaw, his temples throbbing.
I found it ironic.
“David, you could have refused my grandpa’s
proposal the moment he suggested it.”
“You said nothing, accepted me and everything that came with it, and now you’re claiming my family forced you. Do you have any sense of responsibility?”
David was speechless, a tear rolling down his
