Chapter 8
Amelia crumpled to her knees, tears
streaming down her face.
“What am I trying to pull? David, I should be
asking you that!”
“You said you loved me! You said Linda
trapped you into marriage! Why won’t you
divorce her and marry me? What don’t I have
that she does?!”
David grabbed her chin, his voice shaking
with rage.
“You’ll never be Linda. She would never resort
to such dirty tricks!”

“Amelia, you disgust me!”
Amelia coughed, her face red and blotchy.
“David, I did it all for our future!”
“Linda used her tricks to marry you! If she
can do it, why can’t I?!”
David spoke through gritted teeth.
“Don’t you understand? She never
manipulated me! I was the one being petty!”
“Why? Because she’s Linda! Linda is my
wife!”
Amelia couldn’t comprehend the situation.
Why had David’s love vanished overnight?
く
Just days ago, he let her slap me in front of
his friends. He should hate me. Why had
everything changed?
I didn’t understand either.
Perhaps David’s love was as fickle as his
hate.
He wavered, cheating while justifying his
actions, hiding his lingering feelings for me
while refusing to let me go.
No amount of money could make up for his
lack of character. What was there to hold
onto?
I’d seen enough. I closed the door.
As I did, I heard Amelia sobbing.
く
“But David, I’m pregnant.”
Silence fell. Perhaps they had left.
I settled into my new life in Nevada, exploring
the vast, desolate landscape.
I’d always wanted to visit, but David always
said he was too busy.
Back then, I revolved my life around him,
begging for his attention, too afraid to leave.
Now I was here, and so was he. How ironic.
David and Amelia both messaged me after
they left.
[I’ll be back soon, Linda. Wait for me,
【I’ll be back soon, Linda. Wait for me,
okay?】
【Bitch, you think you’ve won? I’m carrying
David’s child! Your little tricks won’t work.
He’ll choose me, even if it’s just for the
baby.】
Amelia still thought this was a competition.
She didn’t know I didn’t love David anymore.
To escape their messages, I changed my
number.
But I still ran into David while hiking.
He blocked my path, his eyes red.
“Linda, I told you I’d come back! Why did you
Г
change your number? I almost thought I’d lost
you forever.”
He held his arms out awkwardly, as if
expecting a hug.
I didn’t move.
“I’m waiting for the divorce to be finalized,
David. The court date is coming up soon.”
