Waiting for him for three years, I
got pregnant instead
Chapter 1
My husband’s dream girl was getting married.
To make her regret it, he abandoned the
wealthy Lu family and me, running off to the
remote Tibetan mountains to “find himself.”
I sent him nine hundred and ninety–nine
messages, but never got a single reply.
After three years, I stopped trying.
I was relaxing on the sofa, enjoying the bird’s
nest soup that the maid had just brought
when Lucas suddenly reappeared.
He glared at my six–month pregnant belly, his
<
jaw tight. “We’ve been married for three
years, and you never once came to visit me in
Tibet. Whose kid is that?”
I was unfazed. “You treated me like I was
worthless, but there are plenty of others who
would cherish me.”
Lucas yanked me up from the sofa, a storm
brewing in his eyes.
“You little tramp! I’m gone for three years,
and you can’t keep your legs closed? You get
yourself knocked up behind my back!”
“Tell me right now, who’s the lowlife you’ve
been screwing?”
L
The bird’s nest soup crashed to the floor,
splattering everywhere.
My mother–in–law rushed into the living
room, horrified to see Lucas grabbing me like
that.
“Lucas, leave her alone! She’s carrying
your…”
He cut her off, his voice like a whip. “Autumn,
I’m talking to you! Are you deaf?!”
My eardrums rang, and anger flared inside
- me.
I wrenched my arm away. “Lucas, you
disappeared for three years, leaving me to
deal with the crumbling Lu family, and then
く
“According to the law, we’ve been separated
for years. I could get a divorce. We’re not
even husband and wife anymore.”
Lucas’s face flushed red. He grabbed me,
ignoring my protests, and started dragging
me toward the door.
“You cheating liar! I’m going to show
everyone what a disgusting excuse for a
woman you are!”
I was weak from the pregnancy, and he was
strong. There was no way I could get away.
My mother–in–law was crying, desperately
trying to stop us.
“Lucas, listen to your mother. Let Autumn
go…”
<
That only seemed to enrage him further. He
raised his hand and slapped me hard across
the face.
I tasted blood.
“And now you’re trying to manipulate my
mother? Bribing her to defend you when she
should know better. I’m going to teach you a
lesson today!” he screamed.
My mother–in–law froze, terrified to come
any closer. She was afraid that her
interference would only make Lucas hit me
harder, and if I lost the baby…
I was dragged outside the gates of the Lu
estate, where a woman in a white dress was
waiting.
Г
It was Sarah, the woman Lucas was obsessed
with.
She disappeared when Lucas left three years.
ago.
Now it seemed like they had been playing
house in Tibet.
Sarah saw my disheveled state and giggled,
|
covering her mouth. “Well, I guess I don’t
have to do anything now.”
Before I could say anything, Lucas pulled me
in front of the neighbors.
He shouted, “Autumn, I kept you fed for three.
years that’s enough; just become a servant of
Lu family and you can give the seat of Mrs.
<
Lu to Sarah, I can leave you a place!”
“Otherwise…”
Lucas smirked and grabbed an iron rod
leaning against the wall.
“I’ll beat this adulterous. woman to death right
here!”
His words were like a punch to the gut.
Before he left, Lucas promised to get justice
for my mother.
That’s why I agreed to endure the ridicule of
everyone in our social circle and use my
money to keep the Lu family afloat.
But he never came back, even after my
<
mother was murdered by a gold digger.
I understood now why he hadn’t laid a hand
on me in the living room. He was afraid of the
gossip. He wanted to force me to quit.
The servants and neighbors started
whispering.
“I knew it! Mr. Lu never comes home. How did
Mrs. Lu get pregnant?”
“And the old mistress has been taking such
good care of her. I thought…”
“Enough!”
My mother–in–law couldn’t take it anymore.
She rushed over, taking my arm and glaring at
Sarah. “I know better than anyone whose
<
child Autumn is carrying! And he is not a
bastard!”
Lucas looked at her, confused.
“Mom, that liar never even looked at me. How
could she be pregnant with my baby?!”
My mother–in–law insisted, “The baby is
legitimate. If anyone says another word, I’m
calling the cops!”
Sarah tugged on Lucas’s sleeve, whimpering,
“Lucas, isn’t your mom being tricked? No
mother–in–law would put up with her
daughter–in–law cheating.
“I heard you can use drugs to control people.
Your mom looks a lot more tired than she
used to. Maybe she’s…”
Lucas’s hands tightened into fists, and he
raised the iron rod at me.
“Autumn, you’ve got a death wish!”
I shot back, “Why do you think your mother
looks so tired? You know exactly why,
Lucas!”
Lucas, as a son, disappeared three years
without a trace.
How could a mother not worry?
Just as Lucas was about to speak, Sarah
pushed me. “You poisonous woman! How
dare you try to blame Lucas?!”
The back of my head slammed against
<
something hard, and my vision blurred.
I had hit my head on an exposed steel nail on
the wall, leaving a small trail of blood.
I lost my balance and fell to the ground, and a
sharp pain shot through my lower abdomen.
My mother–in–law cried out, “Call Doctor
Choe!”
Several servants and the butler started to
rush out, but Lucas’s men blocked them.
My mother–in–law snapped, “Are you deaf?!
Are you not listening to me?!”
Sarah sneered, “Doctor Choe only treats the
rich elite. You can’t just call him like that.”
<
Lucas said coldly, “Protect my mother. Don’t
let that liar trick her.”
A huge servant, easily six foot three, grabbed
my mother–in–law, preventing her from
moving.
She looked at him in disbelief. “I am your
mother!”
As she struggled, the servant twisted her arm
behind her back.
My mother–in–law cried out in pain, but
Lucas didn’t even flinch.
“Lucas, are you insane?!”
I grabbed my belly and struggled to my feet.
“Let us go if you don’t want to die! You can’t
<
hurt this baby!”
Lucas didn’t say anything, just raised the iron
rod and swung it at me.
A searing pain ripped through my knees.
I fell to my knees, my wounds mixing with dirt
and dust. The pain felt like it was burrowing
into my bones.
Lucas shouted, “The Lu family has been
shamed by this woman! I’m going to punish
her!
“Everyone here will be my witness!”
Then, he glared at me.
“Autumn, don’t say I didn’t give you a chance.
<
You don’t want to get rid of this bastard?
Fine, I’ll do it myself.”
I didn’t care about my bleeding knees. All I
wanted to do was get away from him.
“What are you doing…?”
Lucas advanced.
“I’m carrying out family law, of course. You’re
an unfaithful wife, and you poisoned your
mother–in–law. Today, I’m going to beat you
a hundred times in front of everyone as an
example!”
I gasped and glanced at the iron rod.
Lucas had taken that rod to Tibet, and God
knows how many people’s blood it had on it.
One hit could kill me, let alone the baby!
